Jaime was a member of Robert Baratheon's Royal Guard, pledging himself not to marry, not have children, and not to take over his inheritance.
Jaime Lannister the regicide
Jaime bears the nickname Kingslayer, which he hated, because as a member of the Royal Guard he murdered his former warrior Aerys II Targaryen, the mad king, from behind. Later in the story, it turns out that the king had asked Jaime to bring the head of Tywin Lannister to him and wanted to burn the whole city with the help of sea fire. Jaime saw no alternative but to kill the madman.
After Robert Baratheon became King of King's Landing, Jaime stayed in the capital and served the new leader.
Joffrey, Myrcella and Tommen are Jaime's children
Jaime has a secret love affair with his sister Cersei Lannister. Together they broke Jaime's vow and fathered three children. However, these were passed off as children of Robert Baratheon and Cersei.
Ned Stark, the hand of the king, discovers the secret in GoT Season 1 and confronts Cersei. Thereupon she causes the demise of her husband and has Ned Stark arrested by Jaime. Her son, King Joffrey, orders the Stark leader to be executed.
Hostage in the War of the Five Kings
Jaime is captured by the Starks, who use him as leverage against the Lannisters. Catelyn Stark later hands the prisoner over to Brienne von Tarth, who is supposed to bring him back to King's Landing unharmed. In return, Sansa and Arya Stark are said to be released. But on the journey, Brienne and Jaime are captured by Roose Bolton's men. In an argument, a fighter cuts off Jaime's hand.
The unequal couple manage to get to King's Landing. Jaime says goodbye to Brienne and hands her a Valyrian steel sword that he previously received from his father. Tywin had two narrow blades forged from Ned's sword "Ice". Brienne names the sword "Oath Keeper" and goes in search of the missing Stark daughters.
Jaime saves his brother
Meanwhile, Jaime has to deal with the events in King's Landing. His brother, Tyrion, is accused of murdering Joffrey. In Game of Thrones season 4, a lawsuit against Tyrion begins that Jaime cannot prevent. He realizes pretty quickly that the trial is just an excuse to kill Tyrion. Jaime manages to help his brother escape. Tyrion flees to Essos with Varys.
After Ser Gregor Clegane kills Oberyn Martell in the court battle, Cersei fears for the safety of her daughter Myrcella. Together with his companion Bronn, Jaime travels to Dorne to bring back his daughter Myrcella. But when they leave GoT season 5. Jaime brings his daughter back to King's Landing in a golden shroud.
Because of a conflict with the black fish, Jaime is sent to Schnellwasser Castle in Game of Thrones Season 6 to help the Freys recapture the castle. When he returns to King's Landing, Cersei is on the throne.
However, it only gained power by blowing up part of the city with sea fire. There are too many parallels between her and the Mad King for Jaime. He is concerned about her seizure of power.
Raid on rose garden
On the orders of Cersei, Jaime raids Rosengarten, kills Lady Olenna and steals the gold of the Tyrells. On the way back, Jaime narrowly escapes death after he courageously rides on the dragon Drogon. At the last second, Bronn pushes him into the water to escape death by fire.
At the meeting in the dragon pit between Cersei, Jon, Daenerys and Tyrion, Cersei promises her support in the fight against the White Walkers. However, when Jaime learns that it is just a lie, he leaves his sister. Disappointed at Cersei's betrayal, he rides north.
Jaime fights at Brienne's side
He wants to fight the undead in the army of Jon Snow and Daenerys. But Daenerys is suspicious of Jaime. Both his brother Tyrion and Brienne von Tarth speak out for Jaime's loyalty.
At Brienne's side, Jaime fights against the Night King's undead army in GoT Season 8. The living seem to lose the battle when Arya Stark kills the Night King. With this all creatures fall under the spell of the Night King. The war is won. The second long night is over.
Jaime and Cersei united in death
In Winterfell, Jaime Lannister and Brienne finally get closer. They spend a few nights together. But when Daenerys' fleet reaches King's Landing, the next battle is just around the corner. The decision about who will end up on the Iron Throne is approaching. Jaime is drawn to his sister again.
Jaime is inwardly driven as he cannot stay away while his sister's fate is in the balance. On his way to King's Landing, however, Jaime is discovered by Daenerys' troops and imprisoned. Shortly afterwards, Tyrion comes to him and frees his brother so that he can save Cersei in King's Landing. This time Jaime reaches the city without any problems, but the Daenerys attack has already started and Jaime's way to Cersei is blocked.
Jaime knows his way around King's Landing well and takes a different route. This also leads him past the coast where Euron is just washing up. The two men fight and Jaime is badly wounded, but can defeat and kill Euron. Then Jaime goes on and finds Cersei, who is now alone and desperate in the Red Keep. Together they want to escape in a small boat, but their path has now been blocked by rubble. Jaime and Cersei die in a tight embrace when the blanket gives way over them.
