Why are good looking people intimidating

Relationship: "Too Attractive" Woman explains why she couldn't find a partner

“It's a minefield.” This is how Jenna Thompson, swimwear model and presenter, put it when she was a guest on the British TV show “This Morning” this year. There she talked about the disastrous state of her love life - in a part of the program entitled "Woman thinks she is too good-looking to find love".

"I think it's because of the dating apps, they're easy - it's just impossible," she said. "It is absolutely impossible."

Thompson believed the "nice" men she was trying to attract were intimidated because she was handsome and successful. The only men who would be interested in her, she thought, just wanted sex and no obligations.

"They were emotionally unavailable types or those who weren't looking for something serious," Thompson told Insider. “I was stuck in that zone where I only attracted guys who were basically throwaway relationships. Nothing serious."

Thompson has two children, one year and five years old. She and her partner broke up about two years ago while she was pregnant. When she started dating again, she wasn't looking for anything serious either, she tells Insider. But with her new life alone, her priorities changed too.

"Time passed and after about a year I wanted to meet someone again who could get more serious," she tells Insider. "It's funny: I guess I've changed myself - but I haven't changed my strategy for how I wanted to wear the 'right one'."

Just a justification for being single

Her curse, Thompson believes, was that she was a beautiful, successful model. Men find that intimidating. In order to see that this was not the reason for her problems, she first had to meet Sami Wunder: a dating and relationship expert who wrote the e-book "Your Feminine Roadmap To His Commitment" ("Your female guide to his ability to bond")

"Men love good-looking women, that has nothing to do with being intimidated," Wunder told Insider. "When a woman talks like that - and so do many attractive, successful women - it only serves as a justification for why they are single."

So they put the responsibility on the man, she says. She calls this a "limiting belief"("Limiting belief").

She never realized that even her smallest decisions could attract men who were completely wrong to her, says Thompson.

"It was the stupid little things: how you write your dating profile, what pictures you upload there, all that stuff," she says. "I had to rethink all of this and really think about what kind of man I was actually looking for in order to attract this very person."

Dating counselor Wunder receives four-digit sums from her clients for her help; 145 of her clients got engaged after one of their coaching sessions in the past three years. The expert explained to Thompson exactly what she was doing wrong and how to find the love she thought was out of her reach.
