Current vacancies & jobs as a pilot
A pilot has the knowledge and skills necessary to pilot an aircraft. However, the term “pilot” is also used in seafaring and thus also refers to watercraft.
As a pilot, you control the aircraft - which aircraft you are entrusted with can vary a lot. From small 2-person planes to huge passenger and cargo planes, they all fall under the responsibility of a pilot.
The main task as a pilot is of course to maneuver an aircraft or helicopter safely through the air, to take off and land. However, there is more to doing this than just piloting the aircraft.
As a pilot, you ask yourself these questions:
Is the aircraft in a flight-safe condition?
Is there any maintenance work on the aircraft?
Especially on longer flights it can be very exhausting to steer and monitor all instruments at the same time. Therefore, in larger aircraft, co-pilots are used on the one hand and autopilot functions are used on the other. As a pilot, you can therefore concentrate on checking the instruments and only have to hold the controls in your hands when necessary and of course when taking off and landing.
Sense of responsibility
In order for you to start pilot training, complete it successfully and later also make a career as a pilot, you have to meet a number of requirements. You should really think about yourself beforehand whether you are suitable for the job. A pilot takes a lot of responsibility for the lives of other people, be aware of this.
You always have to be very focused and not lose your head even in stressful situations and always be very disciplined as a pilot. Communication is also an important quality. After all, your team must be able to rely on you and receive the correct instructions from you as the pilot. And even if most flying now works with autopilot, a very good mathematical understanding is essential!
You can start your pilot training directly with an airline. Possible training centers are also private flight schools and the Bundeswehr. Some airlines and the armed forces pay for the training. With other airlines and private flight schools, the training costs have to be borne by you - and at around 100,000 euros, these are anything but low.
Before starting the training, you will also go through an assessment center and various examinations to check your suitability for a career as a pilot. The requirements are high and not everyone can be accepted.
During the training you will learn the theoretical basics and deal with aviation law as well as with the weather, technology and flying itself. First on simulators and finally with a flight instructor in real machines.
In order to successfully complete the pilot training, you have to complete a certain number of flight hours.
