Disposable masks - hygiene masks: One size is a disadvantage for women

Unlike fabric masks, there is only one size for hygiene masks. However, it doesn't fit everyone equally well.

To test how many viruses and bacteria a hygiene mask can hold back, it is put on a so-called standard head in the certification laboratory, says Ernest Weingartner, Professor of Particle Measurement at the Institute for Sensor Technology and Electronics at the University of Applied Sciences in Northwestern Switzerland: “These standard heads are male. But this does not take into account over fifty percent of the population. " It is therefore also clear that the hygiene masks fit men better than women with smaller heads.

In principle, it would be possible to manufacture smaller masks in mask production. However, this is a question of demand and price, say manufacturers. However, there are different sizes of fabric masks. "You can choose the mask that fits best," says Weingartner. However, it is important that the fabric mask is certified and thus also protects against the tiny aerosols.

Button in ear loops makes the mask smaller

If the standard hygiene masks do not suit you, you can switch to hygiene masks for children. These are about three inches smaller than the adult ones. Another variant are so-called surgical masks, which can be tied behind the head. These can be set more individually.

Another possibility is to put a button in the ear loops of the hygiene masks. They sit better that way.

What you should definitely not do, however, is to cross your ear loops, warned hospital hygienist Sven Gernhardt in late October. This creates an opening in the cheeks that allows air to pass through.

It's a joke that the masks don't fit. Is someone looking for problems that do not exist or even possible discrimination? Otherwise you would have noticed earlier with the many OR nurses and doctors. If they really didn't fit, there would have been an alternative for a long time. By the way, there are also very fat women who would need larger masks.

"Basically it would be possible to manufacture smaller masks in mask production. However, this is a question of demand" => the demand of half of the world's population is not enough ?! Then why is it enough for the cloth masks? And merci the srf for theming, I've been annoyed with these masks since spring, which only protect men properly ...

It's very informative. Despite large masks, as far as I know, women don't get sick more than men supposedly better protected. Because if wearing masks would really help against a feared infection, it would have to result in women suffering from it significantly more.

Great! Downright awesome! What my wife (and I) immediately understood 9 full months ago, other “intelligent beasts” now understand as well. How stupid can humanity actually be !? Limitlessly stupid. Obviously...
And so defeat Corona? At least questionable, as this case shows again.
