Rami Said Malek (Born May 12, 1981 in Los Angeles, California) is an American actor.

Malek was born on May 12, 1981 in Los Angeles, California to Egyptian immigrants of the Coptic Orthodox faith.

At the request of his parents, he was originally supposed to pursue a legal career, but after he won the one-man piece in a high school competition Zooman and the Sign by Charles Fuller, the positive response to his performance, including from his family, encouraged him to become an actor instead.

After successfully completing his acting studies at the University of Evansville, Indiana, he first moved to New York City, where he, living in modest circumstances, tried to boost a stage career. The casting agent Mali Finn (* 1938, † 2007), whom he met while visiting Los Angeles, recommended that he try his luck in Hollywood.

After a drought of a year and a half, he received his first offer for a role in an episode of the sitcom Gilmore Girls. He made his film debut in 2006 as Pharaoh in Comedy Night in the museum (Night at the Museum) and took up the role again in their two sequels.

Until the mid-2010s he played mostly supporting roles, for example in Larry Crowne at the side of Tom Hanks (* 1956), in Breaking Dawn - Bite to the End of the Night, Part 2 and in the US remake of Oldboy.

Starring in dissociative identity disorder IT professional Elliot on the television series Mr. Robot he became known to a wider audience for the first time. Other leading roles followed in the movies Buster’s Mal Heart from 2016 and Papillon from 2017.
