VERSIONS OF THE IELTS TEST

The two tests IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training are largely similar, but are not completely identical. They use the same rating scale and two of the four test parts are identical. IELTS Life Skills differs fundamentally from the other two versions in that it only tests listening comprehension and language skills, and that this only takes place at one language level, either beginner or intermediate. The information on this website relates only to the IELTS Academic and the IELTS General Training. The IELTS is completed by hand, not on the computer. The student writes his answers on a form sheet. So you don't need to be able to type in order to complete the IELTS.

The two oral parts of the IELTS (listening comprehension and language proficiency) are identical in the IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training versions. The two written parts (reading comprehension and writing skills) are different.

EVALUATION OF THE IELTS TEST

Anyone who wants to do the IELTS, whether it is the Academic or the General Training, must complete all four test parts. You get the result within 13 days. Reading and listening comprehension as well as writing skills are tested at an appointment, while the language proficiency test can also be taken up to 7 days before or after this appointment. Many examinees spend several months preparing for the test and taking preparatory tests before reaching the grade they need.

The current cost of the IELTS test is 223 euros. From April 2018, however, this will change and the test fee will be 226 euros. Depending on your wishes, you can take the IELTS test within Germany - currently only in 17 cities - or abroad, through a language trip.
