Famous People in Peru

The deceased celebrities

In the long-dead celebrity category, we have to go back to the Incas as far back as the 15th century. Pachacuti Inca Yupanqui was the first real celebrity. He rebuilt the city of Cusco.

His son Tupaq Yupanki pursued a successful expansion policy and was the most powerful Inca ruler of all time. He was followed by Huayna Cápac and many other Inca rulers. At war with Francisco Pizarro, the big names were Huascar and Atahualpa. Your name can still be heard today in the Plaza de Armas in Cusco. With the death of Atahualpa the end of the Inca Empire was sealed.

A celebrity of the present day is Martin Chambi, who died in 1973. He became known for his photographs. His portraits were in the well-known collection Martin Chambi's Peru summarized.

The coloratura singer Yma Sumac was a descendant of the Inca ruler Atahualpa. Her fame went far beyond the country's borders. Her name is only known to the initiated. She was very successful in the USA and also made appearances in France in the 1990s. She died in 2008.
