If you don't have an emergency job, maybe you and your family want to have Christmas brunch or dinner out, or maybe you're looking to get out of the house and do some fun on Christmas afternoon. If you find yourself in any of these situations, here is a list of what you can count on being open on Boxing Day in Alamo City.
If you run out of milk, juice, paper products, pain relievers, soda, wine or brandy, you can get it all at your local Walgreens. You can also get a recipe at certain Walgreens locations on Christmas Day, so be sure to call to pick it up before you go.
The River Walk
San Antonio River Walk Mark is open every day of the year, 24 hours a day. Although many of the restaurants and bars will close on Christmas Day, strolling the area when the weather is nice is a fun Christmas Day activity where you and your loved ones can enjoy the twinkling holiday lights.
San Antonio Zoo
Christmas afternoon or night is a wonderful time to visit the San Antonio Zoo to experience zoo lights. You will be treated to twinkling lights, a lakeside light show, a crackling fire to warm up and toast marshmallows and Santa's favorite, hot chocolate. You can also go ice skating or have the option of riding a camel as the three wise men go.
Biga on the Banks
Despite its name, Biga on the Banks, an upscale restaurant is located along the River Walk. Serving an ever changing menu of adventurous New American cuisine, you never know what will come back up on your plate, it's a fantastic Christmas surprise to be made.
Celebrate French-style Christmas at Friedrichs Bistro. Voted as the best French restaurant in San Antonio by the Election Awards Reader, this bistro won't disappoint any day of the year.
Grand Hyatt San Antonio
The Grand Hyatt San Antonio is a short walk from the River Walk and is open all day at Christmas. For breakfast, lunch or dinner, dine at Ruths Chris Steakhouse in the hotel, then stop at Bar Rojo for a specialty cocktail and enjoy a few small plates.
It is a tradition of going to the cinema on Christmas afternoons. Hollywood has taken note and has released great Christmas movies for the past few years.
You should expect most, if not all of the theaters to be open on Christmas Day, and whether you choose the homegrown Alamo Drafthouse, IMAX, or a traditional multiplex, you are sure to find a theater that suits you and your companion. Due to the popularity of this activity, you can reserve seats in advance for this favorite Christmas Day activity.

Vegetarians and vegans, Himalaya Bazaar is for you. Stocking everything from taro root to samosas, you can pick up a freshly prepared Indian dish on Christmas Day as a kind of insurance that you won't go hungry at a meat lover's house.
The bazaar also sells jewelry and trinkets for last minute purchases and small gifts.
