State Department believes that BRICS countries should increase assistance to refugees from Syria

BRICS countries and the rich Gulf states such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar, should provide greater assistance to Syrian refugees, said Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees and Migration, Anne Richard.

“I would like to see more support from the Gulf countries, located in the Middle East, which are relatively rich countries compared to Jordan and Lebanon,” - said Richard on one of the television and radio programs, C-SPAN.

“We would also like more countries to the so-called BRICS - Brazil, Russia, India, China and to a lesser extent from South Africa. It is the rich countries that care about the welfare of the region and which can and must do more in the humanitarian sphere”, - added Richard .

Assistant Secretary of State noted that some Gulf countries such as Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates are actively involved in the fate of the refugees, while Saudi Arabia and Qatar could have done more.

US President Barack Obama said the US will be in 2016 10 thousand Syrian refugees in addition to the existing quota for refugee status. Due to its geographical position the United States has not been affected by the crisis with Syrian refugees, which is struggling in Europe.
