The US Congress has included in the budget of offensive weapons for Kiev

The US Congress has included in the draft military budget amendment, providing for the supply to Ukraine of lethal weapons, the newspaper New York Times.

According to the newspaper, the amendments made by the Senate, provide for the transfer of Kiev antitank missile systems, mortars, grenade launchers and ammunition. The proposed terms of the legislators also do not allow the administration to spend more than half of the $ 300 million allocated for assistance to Ukraine, if 20% of this assistance will not be reserved for offensive weapons, the newspaper said. Similar measures were adopted by the House of Representatives.

The US has already assisted Ukraine, delivering non-lethal military goods (equipment and gear), but the White House opposes the supply of offensive arms, as it believes that this could lead to an escalation of the conflict in the Donbass.

The Ukrainian authorities have started in April last year in the Donbass military operation against the coup disgruntled residents of the region. According to the latest UN data, victims of the conflict were about 6.5 thousand people. Earlier, the Ukrainian government and the US and the EU have repeatedly accused Moscow of interfering in the affairs of Ukraine. Russia denies it and calls the accusations unacceptable. Moscow has repeatedly stated that it is not a party to the Ukrainian domestic conflict and is not implicated in the events in the southeast, is interested in the fact that Ukraine has overcome the political and economic crisis.
